Mitchells Plain boy (12) hit by stray bullet during police shootout

CAPE TOWN - A 12-year-old Mitchells Plain boy was hit by a stray bullet when police shot at suspects on Sunday.

Officials say officers received information about a group of men in possession of a firearm and knives.

A police officer fired shots at a suspect who was carrying a large knife.

The boy suffered a bullet graze wound to his head during the incident.

Western Cape Police spokesperson FC van Wyk says an attempted murder case has been opened for further investigation.

“Mitchells Plain police received a complaint where a law enforcement officer shot at suspects. A 12-year-old boy was walking with his grandfather. He was taken to a hospital for medical treatment.”
