Joburg residents cautioned against misuse of fire hydrants, public taps
Joburg Water says Sandton will have a stable flow of water later on Thursday afternoon.
JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg Water has cautioned against the misuse of public taps and hydrants as the utility works to fix a burst pipe that’s left residents without water for much of this week.
The utility says Sandton will have a stable flow of water later on Thursday afternoon.
MMC for environmental and infrastructure services Nico De Jager says reservoirs are still filling up.
“We can only assume this is as a result of residents going to the fire hydrants to look for water and when there's no water they left the hydrants open. So, we have a massive wastage of water as a result at the moment. And I’m going to ask the team to immediately attend to those fire hydrants.”
