JOHANNESBURG - Eleven people have been arrested after the City of Johannesburg conducted raids in two hijacked buildings in the CBD.

Five undocumented foreign nationals and six suspects wanted for various crimes are among those arrested on Thursday.

The city says a couple arrested earlier this month for hijacking a property in Kenilworth in Johannesburg remain in custody.

Spokesperson Lucky Sindane says while hijacked buildings remain a challenge they're pleased with the progress they have made so far.

“We are going to intensify these raids on a weekly basis leading up to the festive season as well because some owners go away and people see this as an opportunity to hijack buildings.”
