JOHANNESBURG - Emergency medicine specialist Dr Charl van Loggerenburg says although one is not obliged to stop and assist at an accident scene, common sense must apply and it is advised that people who assist the injured are skilled in first aid.

Van Loggerenburg says it of the utmost importance that you call for help before doing anything and be careful not to do anything that puts your life in danger while trying to assist.

He adds that road users must also take into account the fact that crime in the country is high, that a scene could be staged and one might fall into a trap and fall victim to crime.
