CAPE TOWN - SA’s latest crime statistics revealed, among other things, a decline in the level of non-violent property crime, a possible stabilisation, following four years of increase, in murder and a sustained rise in violent property crime.

However, crime in the Western Cape is at an all-time high.

This was revealed by the provincial legislature’s Standing Committee on Community Safety on Wednesday.

Cape Town researcher Anine Kriegler says South African crime stats show that police are struggling to close cases.
