JOHANNESBURG – Joburg Water is urging residents in some parts of North Riding not to drink tap water as it investigates the possibility of a suspected sewer contamination in the area.

Officials say affected streets include Boundary, Aureole and Spionskop.

Joburg Water's Isaac Dhludhlu says that samples have been taken for testing and results are expected later on Wednesday.

"Joburg Water would like to advise residents of North Riding not to use the tap water or consume it until we have the lab results taken yesterday."

Water tankers will be available for affected residents as an alternative water supply.

Joburg Water says it expects the lab results on Wednesday (1 November) afternoon.
