JOHANNESBURG - The National Teacher’s Union (Natu) says its saddened to learn that pupils at schools throughout KwaZulu-Natal have gone without meals since July this year.

Natu says the Education Department in KZN hasn’t paid service providers for the past four months.

It says the National School Nutrition Programme which has a budget of over a billion rand is not being spent by the province.

The union's deputy president Allen Thompson said: “They’re preparing for examinations, they work till late at night and wake up early in the morning. If their homes do not have food which means the schools are also failing to provide, meaning the president of the country lied.”
