CAPE TOWN – Five people have died on Western Cape roads since the start of the weekend.

At least 39 drivers have also been arrested during various roadblocks conducted.

Traffic officials says they’ve confiscated R1.6 million worth of abalone in the Hermanus area.

Officials also arrested four speedsters in the Beaufort-West area.

Provincial Traffic Chief - Kenny Africae explains: “The highest speed recorded in the Western Cape since the start of this weekend was 168km/h in a 120km/h zone on the N1 near Beaufort West, as well as 120km/h in a 100km/h zone.”
