[LISTEN] How a stagnant economy will affect organised labour

Karima Brown speaks to Professor Patrick Bond, Saftu general secretary, Zwelinzima Vavi and deputy general secretary of Fedusa, Riefdah Ajam about the crisis facing the country’s economy.

JOHANNESBURG - Professor of Political Economy at Wits, Patrick Bond, says that South Africa is in an intense class struggle.

General secretary at South African Federation of Trade Unions Zwelinzima Vavi says that Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba’s midterm budget speech had nothing in common with the program of radical economic transformation.

Vavi says that President Jacob Zuma claims that he appointed Gigaba because he wanted to push radical economic transformation, and this was proven to be untrue on Wednesday.

He describes the economic crisis reflected in the midterm budget as a "full horror for South Africa".

Deputy general secretary at Federation of Unions of South Africa, Riefdah Ajam says that Gigaba’s speech did absolutely nothing to allay her organisation’s fears, as well as those of South Africans.
