Max Price: UCT can’t afford another 0% fee increment
Price says if institutions increase tuition fees next year, government will have to formulate plans to buffer this.
Price has written to President Jacob Zuma, requesting the release of the Commission of Inquiry into Higher Education and Training report.
He says if institutions increase tuition fees next year, government will have to formulate plans to buffer this.
Earlier on Tuesday, there were disruptions following a student mass meeting on the upper campus.
Students made several demands related to fee-free education.
Price says urgent direction with regard to 2018 university fees is needed.
“This is something that depends on government to come to the party. But what we have been discussing for our university in the past is the way of protecting the post-students.
"We would expect that even with the fee increase that the NSFAS funding would increase in an exact proportion or very closely aligned to the to the fee increase.”
