Alexander Forbes Investments Executive Chief Economist Lesiba Mothata says South Africa is not in a crisis when compared to countries such as Brazil in 2014 and Hungary in 2011.

JOHANNESBURG - Alexander Forbes Investments executive chief economist Lesiba Mothata says South Africa is not in a crisis yet because the banks have not failed systematically, the currency has not depreciated precipitously, and the country still has the ability to hike taxes.

Mothata says for as long as Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba can still hike taxes on petrol, introduce VAT for online transactions, and corporate tax, among others, the country will not implode.
