Minister Zwane to face grilling over state capture allegations
Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane is set to appear before Parliament's mineral resources portfolio committee on Wednesday to answer to allegations of state capture.
CAPE TOWN - Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane is going nowhere.
He's kept his job despite strong criticism of how he's running his department.
Zwane's set to appear before Parliament's mineral resources portfolio committee on Wednesday to answer to allegations of state capture.
The committee is one of four tasked with probing grand corruption.
It’s been alleged that Zwane’s CV was sent to the Gupta family shortly before he was appointed as a minister. It’s also believed that he received flight and accommodation in Dubai, courtesy of the Gupta family.
Chairperson of the mineral resources committee Sahlulele Luzipo says that MPs will be given free rein to ask any questions they feel are pertinent.
“It will be much better if we focus on questions that will assist the committee in terms of the minister’s application of the executive’s authority.”
Based on the responses received, the committee will deliberate on how to proceed with the probe.
