Chamber of Mines worried by violence in mining communities

JOHANNESBURG - The Chamber of Mines says it’s extremely worried about the violence in various mining communities.

The chamber says in recent weeks there have been several killings, many of them hits on trade unionists, on the western side of the platinum belt in Rustenburg.

Spokesperson Charmane Russell says they’ve been liaising with police structures on mine security.

“Relating to mine security, ad hoc security and general security at mining communities.”
