‘Next ANC leader must not have smallanyana skeletons’
Zikalala was speaking to Eyewitness News following his election as the veterans’ league president.
JOHANNESBURG - African National Congress (ANC) Veterans' League President Snuki Zikalala says while the league decided not to endorse any presidential candidate, they want a leader that is beyond reproach and free of “smallanyana skeletons”.
Zikalala was speaking to Eyewitness News following his election as the league's president.
The league, which is open to ANC members over 60 with an unbroken record of 40 years in the party, held its second national congress over the weekend.
Zikalala believes the ANC should be part of the consultative conference due to take place next month organised by the party’s stalwarts.
He believes there are hard questions the party needs to ask itself.
“What went wrong? Why did we fail society in implementing our mandate?”
On the party’s elective conference later this year, Zikalala made it clear what kind of a leader the veterans will support.
“Any leader of the ANC must be beyond reproach. Any leader of the ANC must be ethical and must not have what we call ‘smallanyana skeletons.’”
He says that leader must be someone society at large will have confidence in.
