JOHANNESBURG - The Gauteng Education Department has confirmed more pupils have come forward claiming they've been sexually abused at a Soweto primary school, bringing the total number to 87.

It's understood four more girls came forward on Friday while social workers conducted counselling at the Orlando East school.

A 57-year-old scholar patrolman was arrested earlier this week in connection with the abuse.

Forty-four cases have been opened with the police against the father of four daughters.

The department's Steve Mabona said: “We don’t want to destabilise the process. We want the process to continue so that we get to the bottom of it and make sure that we don’t leave anyone outside.”
