Presidency yet to receive formal request for SANDF deployment

CAPE TOWN - The Presidency says it is yet to receive a formal request for members if the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) to be deployed to crime hotspots.
Police Minister Fikile Mbalula has requested the Defence Minister to send in soldiers to known gang areas in the Western Cape and Gauteng.
Mbalula argues that the intensity of violent crimes in parts of these provinces, particularly Cape Town, calls for urgent intervention.
