PE cops arrest 3 in abalone bust

CAPE TOWN - Three suspects have been arrested in Port Elizabeth for the illegal possession of abalone valued at R30,000.

The arrests came after the flying squad and anti-poaching unit conducted a stakeout on Tuesday.

Suspects were seen loading bags into a car and driving away.

Police followed the vehicle and eventually stopped it.

The police's Priscilla Naidu says officers found five bags totalling 555 units of abalone was found on the back seat of the car.

“The suspects were arrested and charged with the illegal possession of abalone. The estimated value of the abalone is about R30,000.”
