Eusebius McKaiser speaks to social-political commentator Oliver Dickson, rapper Slikour and author Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh about the use of hip-hop as political commentary.

JOHANNESBURG – Hip-hop artists Slikour, author and rapper Sizwe Mpofu-Walsh and social-political commentator Oliver Dickson question whether South African hip-hop can be used as political commentary.

Mpofu-Walsh says that South African hip-hop has always been political. He cites hip-hop groups like Prophets of Da City and Skwatta Kamp, who rapped about the transition from apartheid to democratic South Africa.
