Lobby group urges Zuma to release Fees Commission report
As universities determine fee hikes for the 2018 academic year the lobby group says it’s crucial for the report to be made public.
JOHANNESBURG – The Higher Education Transformation Network has called on President Jacob Zuma to urgently release the Fees Commission’s report into the feasibility of free higher education to avoid a student revolt.
As universities determine fee hikes for the 2018 academic year, the lobby group says it’s crucial for the report to be made public.
Zuma established the commission in 2015 following nationwide student protests.
The group’s chairperson Reginald Legoabe says: “We wish caution universities’ vice-chancellors to delay their management planning side and to desist from unilaterally raising their fees for the 2018 period because in so doing we believe that they will spark another students revolt, similar to the ones in 2015.”
