MEC calls for arrests following Shoprite assault
A video showing a woman being assaulted and handcuffed after her daughter (3) apparently relieved herself outside the Usave Shoprite in Cosmo City has gone viral.
JOHANNESBURG – Gauteng community safety MEC Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane says she's angered by the assault of a woman in front of her toddler at a Shoprite store.
A video showing the woman being assaulted and handcuffed after her three-year-old daughter apparently relieved herself outside the Usave Shoprite in Cosmo City has gone viral.
The video shows guards from private security dragging the woman on the floor and insulting her in front of her child.
The MEC was at the store to get some answers on Sunday morning.
A visibly angry Nkosi-Malobane went to the store in question along with the victim Thandi Shaparadzo and her three-year-old daughter.
She called for the immediate arrest of those implicated.
“You must arrest him now, and those other two people must be arrested now. I want them arrested now.”
Shaparadzo’s daughter was reluctant to go back in the store where she witnessed and tried to stop the guards from assaulting her mother.
Thandi explains: “Its like today when I went to the police station today, it’s the same way we use when we come to Shoprite, and she started crying ‘I don’t want to go to Shoprite’.”
A case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm has been opened.
