‘Still no arrests’ after initiation school deaths in Gauteng
The DA says 27 illegal initiation schools were operating in the summer and 40 others in winter this year alone.
JOHANNESBURG - The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Gauteng says it’s concerned that no one has been arrested for the deaths of four initiates who died during this year's winter initiation season.
The party says 27 illegal initiation schools were operating in the summer and 40 others in winter this year alone.
The opposition party says provincial Traditional Affairs MEC Paul Mashatile has not done anything despite knowing that there have been no arrests for the deaths or the illegal school operating in the province.
It says 19 initiates have died in Gauteng since 2012.
The DA’s Makashule Gana says they’ll take action.
“Paul Mashatile indicated that no arrests have taken place for those at illegal initiation schools in Gauteng. As a party, we will put a motion in place to ensure illegal initiation schools in Gauteng are monitored.”
