Ramaphosa: The ANC is also to blame for MK divisions
Speaking at the MKMVA’s national conference, Ramaphosa said the ANC contributed to the divisions within the MK.
JOHANNESBURG – Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa says the African National Congress (ANC) is also to blame for the divisions within the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) veterans.
Ramaphosa addressed hundreds of MK veterans on Friday at their national conference in Johannesburg.
However, the leadership of the MK Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) did not attend the conference after agreeing through mediation by the secretary general Gwede Mantashe.
The MKMVA held its own elective conference in June, but the legitimacy of it has come under question, however, President Jacob Zuma endorsed it by attending.
Ramaphosa says the ongoing factions among MK veterans has been heightened by the ANC.
“As the leadership of the ANC we must accept that we have not taken up the challenge ourselves to unite. We have also contributed to the division.”
