Pilot dies in light aircraft crash near Pretoria

JOHANNESBURG – A pilot has been killed when his light aircraft crashed on a plot near Boschkop Road in the Tierpoort area, southeast of Pretoria.

It’s understood the pilot was alone in the plane heading to a nearby airfield when the accident occurred on Friday night.

Paramedics say rescue equipment was used to reach the victim as he was trapped in the wreckage.

Netcare 911’s Nick Dolman says: “On arrival at the scene paramedics attended to one male patient. Tragically the man had sustained severe injuries and died at the scene. Rescuers were on scene and used specialised equipment to access the patient.”

The cause of the crash is not yet known.
