JOHANNESBURG – Johannesburg Emergency Services officials are on high alert on Thursday afternoon after a warning for severe storms in the southern parts of the city.

The South African Weather Service says the heavy downpours will be accompanied by gusty winds.

Forecasters say the storm is likely to last until about 10 pm on Thursday evening.

Emergency services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi says: “We have our monitoring teams that will keep an eye on our low-lying areas.”

Motorists have also been urged to keep a safe following distance and keep their headlights on at all times.
