[ALERT] Severe storm to hit Gauteng
The South African Weather Service says the heavy downpours will be accompanied by gusty winds until around 10pm tonight.
JOHANNESBURG - A warning has been issued for severe storms in the southern parts of Gauteng today.
The South African Weather Service says the heavy downpours will be accompanied by gusty winds until around 10pm.
Forecaster Dipuo Tawana explains: “We are expecting rain with the chance of heavy rainfall. The alert is for the southern parts of Johannesburg and Vereeniging. We are expecting 50mm or more.”
On Wednesday, the Weather Service also warned that a cold front would move over the country resulting in windy, rainy and cold conditions in the Western and Northern Cape provinces.
Light snowfall is also expected on the mountains bordering the Eastern Cape and Lesotho.
Severe thunderstorms with a risk of heavy downpours and strong gusty winds were expected over the western parts of the North-West province, the western and southern Free State and the eastern half of the Eastern Cape.
