Hawks officer arrested for stealing R439K
During the investigation, it was also discovered that another R43,000 from a separate case went missing while under anti-corruption commander Richard Nkwanyana's watch.
JOHANNESBURG – The Hawks have arrested one of their own for stealing almost half a million rand in cash.
Mpumalanga anti-corruption commander Richard Nkwanyana handed himself over on Monday after he allegedly spent R439,900 meant for safekeeping after an arrest.
The money was seized from two men, but there was no evidence linking them to any wrongdoing. And the Nelspruit Magistrates Court then ordered the cash be given back to them.
Nkwanyana had, however, already spent the money.
During the investigation, it was also discovered that another R43,000 from a separate case went missing while under his watch.
The Hawk’s Hangwani Mulaudzi said: “So the monies were kept in a safe place but eventually they found out that it has vanished. We tried by all means to request that he avails the money but he failed on many occasions.”
