[LISTEN] Xolani Gwala reveals he has colon cancer
Radio 702 presenter Stephen Grootes talks to Xolani Gwala about his medical challenge and his journey to recovery.
JOHANNESBURG - Talk Radio 702’s Xolani Gwala has been diagnosed with advanced colon cancer.
The talk show host confirmed the news in an interview with Stephen Grootes on Friday morning.
The media personality presents the Breakfast Show on 702 but has been out of the hot seat for the last few weeks.
Last month, Gwala announced that he would be taking a break from his show to deal with a “serious medical condition”.
On Friday morning, the 702 presenter updated listeners on further details of his condition.
“So far they have done the first operation to take out a tumour but obviously there is still quite a lot that still needs to happen. As early as next week I am starting chemotherapy,” Gwala said.
Gwala thanked his doctors, family and friends for the support.
“I am receiving excellent care from my doctors and medical team, and I am very grateful for the love and support of my family, colleagues and friends.”
He added that despite the challenging times that he is going through, he is ready to fight: “It is going to be a very long fight partly because it was advanced, a difficult fight, but a fight I am ready for.”
