CAPE TOWN - A man accused of raping a six-year-old girl and then bribing her with R5 will be back in the Bishop Lavis magistrates court on Thursday.

The 53-year-old man was apprehended in August shortly after the incident allegedly unfolded at his Bonteheuwel home.

He has been denied bail.

The accused is believed to have given the girl a R5 coin shortly after he allegedly raped her in his bathroom.

It’s understood the child’s mother caught the man in the bathroom with her daughter.

The mother and daughter lived in a backyard dwelling on the accused’s property.

Authorities were alerted after the victim's mother took her to a clinic.

Some Bonteheuwel residents signed a petition calling on the court to deny bail.
