JOHANNESBURG - Human Settlements Minister Lindiwe Sisulu has admitted something needs to be done to better equip her department to deal with fires that "ravage" communities.

The minister was speaking at the Human Settlements Development Summit earlier on Thursday.

She says that the recent fires that have devastated South African communities have forced her department to rethink its planning.

“The ravaging fires have gone through Bitou, George, Knysna and Hout Bay's Imizamo Yethu and we have recognised that perhaps we should do something differently.”
