Mashatile: Khoza’s departure a loss to the ANC
ANC MP Makosi Khoza announced her resignation from the ruling party at a briefing at Liliesleaf Farm on Thursday.
Khoza announced her resignation from the ruling party at a briefing at Liliesleaf Farm on Thursday.
She says it’s too difficult to stay in a place where she's ridiculed for acting with a moral conscience.
Mashatile says while he respects Khoza's decision to leave the party, he doesn't agree with her that the ANC is corrupt.
“We may have challenges with certain individuals but the ANC as an organization, in fact, has been at the forefront of fighting corruption. There are good men and women.”
But he does admit that Makhosa's decision to leave the party is a great loss to the organization.
“Any person leaving the ANC is a great loss.”
He says that things will change in the ANC and then people will come back.

At the same time, deputy chief whip of the ANC in Parliament Doris Dlakude says that she’s not really surprised by Khoza’s resignation.
Dlakude was asked about Khoza’s resignation after she attended the swearing-in of Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma at Parliament earlier on Thursday.
“We make choices as human beings… she said she resigned from the ANC. She was supposed to do that in her branch… it was unfortunate that she resigned (through) the media.”
Meanwhile, Khoza says she is taking the values from the "real ANC" with her and leaving the party that she no longer recognises.
She made it clear that she's not joining the opposition party.
“We need to draw a distinction between the ANC mission and the leaders that are now running the ANC. Although I am leaving the ANC, the values that the real ANC taught me, I’m taking them with me – those are the values of Madiba.”
