CAPE TOWN - A complaint lodged with the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) against Bell Pottinger employee Kevin Read has been discontinued.

It was one of two complaints lodged by the Democratic Alliance in connection with the UK agency's work for the Gupta family in South Africa.

Earlier this month, the UK's Public Relations and Communications Association found Bell Pottinger to have fanned racial tension in South Africa.

The agency has since gone into administration.

Bell Pottinger as a company is not a member of the CIPR, but as the DA's Phumzile van Damme explains, Read is a member of the regulator.

“One person who was a member of the CIPR was Kevin Read, who was intricately involved in the campaign for the Guptas, the CIPR tried without luck to get hold of him."
