High art: Esther Mahlangu honoured with mural in NYC
The mural is located on Franklin Street and the West Broadway Citi Bike station in Tribeca and was created by Imani Shanklin Roberts.
JOHANNESBURG - South African contemporary artist, Esther Mahlangu, has been honoured with a mural commemorating her bold and bright work in New York City.
This is part of a month-long partnership with Citi Bike which will see South Africa's unique art and culture taking to the streets of the city.
The partnership will showcase the variety of safari, adventure, and cultural experiences holidaymakers can have in South Africa, while the pièce de résistance will be an original art mural dedicated to Mahlangu.
The mural is located on Franklin Street and the West Broadway Citi Bike station in Tribeca and was created by Imani Shanklin Roberts.
The painting spans a two-lane road and features Ndebele symbols that Roberts says are a celebration of feminine energy.
