JOHANNESBURG - The ANC Women’s League (ANCWL) has come out in defence of public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane saying its worried about attacks on her character.

Mkhwebane faced criticism from various quarters this week after records emerged showing that the advocate failed to disclose a meeting she'd had with President Jacob Zuma’s advisors, in her final Ciex report, and allegedly discussed the bank’s vulnerabilities with the state security agency.

It emerged in an affidavit filed by the Reserve Bank earlier this week that she was accused of colluding with the presidency and the state security agency- to attack the central bank.

ANCWL general secretary Meokgo Matuba said, “The league calls on all to defend the office of the public protector against any smear campaign.”
