CAPE TOWN - Minister Faith Muthambi’s office has done an about turn, claiming she never acknowledged she had hired nine of her family members.

Muthambi testified before the Public Services and Administration Portfolio Committee in Parliament on Wednesday.

She was there to address various issues, including allegations that she’d hired several family members for her personal staff.

Eyewitness News was there and recorded this response from Muthambi.

Muthambi’s spokesperson, Pfarelo Maduguma, now says the minister was not saying “nine of them are family members”. Instead, he claims she was saying “none” of them were family members.

Earlier on Friday morning, Maduguma told Eyewitness News that the minister had said nine “people” as opposed to nine family members.

When Eyewitness News asked for the names of Muthambi’s new hires; he refused to disclose them, saying it was not relevant to the conversation.
