PRETORIA - South African Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula says Lesotho is under a dark cloud following the death of its army chief Khoantle Motsomotso.

She was speaking at the opening of a ministerial meeting on Friday, preparing for a regional summit on security in the Mountain Kingdom.

President Jacob Zuma will host the summit of the 15-nation Southern African Development Community (SADC) to be attended by the heads of state of Angola, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zambia.

Mapisa-Nqakula says that Motsomotso’s death underscores the importance of dealing effectively with the political challenges in Lesotho.

She says SADC has the capacity and the political will to beat rogue elements in Lesotho.
