Matjila has been accused of funding a project linked to an alleged lover and has been asked to respond to alleged corruption.
The PIC Is the biggest investor in the country and the newspaper says the plan is to remove Matjila and replace him with a Gupta appointee during a special board meeting on Friday.
The deputy finance minister, who’s also the chairperson of the PIC, has dismissed these allegations, saying they are unfounded and baseless.
“I saw the questions on Wednesday evening, with an innuendo which said there’s a conspiracy to remove the CEO. I must say, my first reaction was shell-shocked; I didn’t expect it and I didn’t know where it was coming from.”
