JOHANNESBURG - Former Deputy Minister of Higher Education Mduduzi Manana has once again apologised to the victims he assaulted, the women of South Africa and the nation at large.

He appeared at the Randburg magistrates court on Wednesday where he pleaded guilty on three counts of assault with the intention to cause grievous bodily harm.

Manana was caught on film last month assaulting two women outside a Johannesburg nightclub.

He entered the court smiling and composed, greeting some of his family members seated at the front benches. He said he expected the court would use its wisdom to decide how harsh his sentencing will be.

"Once again I truly apologise to the nation, to the women of South Africa and to the victims."

He said he took responsibility and had started doing something about his behaviour.

“But once again, I truly apologise.”

Sentencing will take place on 7 November.

At the same time, on Wednesday police confirmed that a third person has been arrested in connection with the assault case.
