Lawyers for ‘Brickz’ to appeal rape conviction
Sipho Ndlovu commonly known as “Brickz” was in June found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl in his Ruimsig home in 2013.
JOHANNESBURG - Lawyers for convicted rapist Sipho “Brickz” Ndlovu say they are planning to appeal his rape conviction.
Ndlovu appeared briefly at the Roodepoort magistrates court for sentencing proceedings.
Earlier this year, he was found guilty of raping a 16-year-old girl in his Ruimsig home in 2013.
The matter was postponed to later in September.
Sentencing proceedings were postponed yet again for Ndlovu commonly known as “Brickz”.
After his conviction in June 2017, Ndlovu changed lawyers which caused major delays in the sentencing process.
Proceedings on Thursday were further delayed as the defence’s Piet du Plessis claimed to not have all the transcripts needed.
“We had to get the full court transcript up to the judgement of the regional court magistrate.”
Sentencing will resume later in September, with the defence expected to appeal the conviction and apply for bail pending appeal.
