JOHANNESBURG - Officials from the Gauteng Education Department have met with the family of a West Rand boy who was allegedly murdered by six teenagers.

The boys, aged between 15 and 19, have already appeared in court over the killing which took place in the Smokedown informal settlement last week.

The sixth suspect, aged 19, was already on parole for a separate crime when he was arrested.

Gauteng Education Department spokesperson Steve Mabona says the government is assisting the bereaved family and providing support for the accused.

“Our principals have been sent to the victim’s family to convey our condolences. What transpired is quite shocking.”
