City Power aims to restore Joburg CBD power by Tuesday night
Residents and businesses affected by cable theft in the Johannesburg CBD will have to endure at least another day without electricity.
JOHANNESBURG - Residents and businesses affected by cable theft in the Johannesburg CBD will have to endure at least another day without electricity.
City Power is now promising that power will only be restored by Tuesday evening.
The area has been in the dark for over a week now after the theft of copper cables underground.
On Monday, the utility said that about 40% of the CBD had been reconnected.
It now says that following work done on Monday night, the entire city should have power by Tuesday night.
Spokesperson Sol Masolo says: “We’re now testing the equipment that has been installed. Obviously, during the testing period there might be some of the equipment that fails and if it does we’d replace it with a new one.
“Basically, our plan is by the end of the day every customer that has been affected should have light.”
