Corruption Watch submits request to US Justice Dept to probe McKinsey

The organisation says it believes that McKinsey may be in contravention of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act over its conduct here in South Africa.

JOHANNESBURG - Corruption Watch says it’s in the process of preparing a submission to the US Justice Department requesting a probe into consultancy firm McKinsey.

The organisation says it believes that McKinsey may be in contravention of the US Foreign Corrupt Practices Act over its conduct in South Africa.

Eskom paid Mckinsey and Gupta-linked company Trillian R1.6 billion payments that were red-flagged by New York-based firm Oliver Wyman.

Corruption Watch's David Lewis says they'll also refer the company to South African authorities but are pushing ahead with its submission to the US First.

“They are even more likely to be in contravention of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act. We are just not confident that the South African authorities would act on it but we are fairly confident that if we are able to make out a prima facie case that the US authorities will act.”
