‘Tension in the air’ as Hurricane Irma heads towards Florida
South African singer in Florida Jessie Presto says they have already identified a shelter close by in case Irma hits the state this weekend.
JOHANNESBURG - A South African singer in Florida says the tension ahead of a possible hit by Hurricane Irma has escalated.
Jessie Presto says nearly half the residents in her area have been fleeing the state since Wednesday.
The Category 5 hurricane has been described as the strongest hurricane over the Atlantic in recorded history.
It has already caused severe damage in the Carribean, killing at least nine people.
Presto says they have already identified a shelter close by in case Irma hits the state this weekend.
“There is definitely tension in the air. People are filling up their cars and people are just buying anything that is remotely close to water. Water is running out. I didn’t think it would be this hectic, but it’s just escalated.”
