CAPE TOWN - Mossel Bay police are searching for a man who faces charges of rape, theft and attempted murder.

Police say a 43-year-old woman met the suspect at a filling station last week, where she sought his assistance to go and buy drugs.

The man offered to take her to Pacaltsdorp, but took a detour and drove to Great Brak River where he allegedly raped her.

The police's Malcolm Poje said: “Near a farm, he pulled over and raped the victim. He also tried to strangle her to death and left her in the veld. She managed to crawl to the N2 where a truck driver assisted her. Subsequently, they informed the police.”
