Soweto taxi driver arrested for being 5 times over drunk driving limit

JOHANNESBURG - A taxi driver transporting school children has been arrested for drunk driving after testing five times over the limit.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD)'s Wayne Minnaar says the driver was nabbed during a special operation in Soweto on Monday morning.

“JMPD officers have arrested a taxi driver for drunken driving in Meadowlands, Soweto, this morning for being more than five times above the legal limit.”

He is the second driver to be handcuffed in Soweto while ferrying children under the influence.

Last week a man was arrested after testing positive for alcohol while transporting 14 pupils in the area.
