CAPE TOWN - The mother of a seven-year-old boy shot and killed in Grassy Park says her family has been let down by authorities.

Ezra Daniels was caught in the crossfire of gang violence on Sunday afternoon while playing outside his home.

The boy’s mother, Desire Daniels, says her son’s death is indicative of the violence that characterises the area.

“We’re very sad, children were playing all over and they just came and shot an innocent child. He was just playing over the road, that’s all.”

Four people have been arrested.

Two police officers were injured and a SAPS vehicle was damaged when angry community members turned on them.

Grassy Park’s Community Policing Forum is outraged by the boy's murder, adding more needs to be done to eradicate gangsterism.
