JOHANNESBURG - Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane says the tragedy at Harmony Gold's Kusasalethu operation should mark a turning point in mine safety in the country.

The minister is visiting the scene where five miners lost their lives during a rockfall triggered by a seismic event exactly a week ago.

A memorial service is being planned for Monday.

On Thursday, the bodies of the last two missing mine workers were recovered from the Carletonville mine following a six-day search.

Zwane thanked mine management and all those who worked together during the recovery operation.

“We will implement the laws that we have without moving [sic]. We will also talk, engage, because that is very important and also to hear from the workers.”
