Police can't confirm if Sandton CEO’s shooting was a hit
Basis Points Capital CEO Vusi Mhlanzi was shot while driving home on the corner of Grayston and Katherine streets on Thursday night.
JOHANNESBURG - Police say they cannot confirm at this stage if the shooting of a Sandton CEO on Grayston drive on Thursday night was a hit.
Basis Points Capital CEO Vusi Mhlanzi was shot while driving home on the corner of Grayston and Katherine streets just after 6:30pm.
Police are investigating a case of murder.
Two gunmen in a silver car pulled up next to Mhlanzi’s convertible Mercedes Benz at the corner of Grayston and Katherine and opened fire seven times.
The Basis Points Capital CEO was hit six times.
He pushed the accelerator and crashed into the traffic light, causing his vehicle to burst into flames.
Staff from the Audi leadership at the intersection ran out to assist, but Mhlanzi died on the scene.
A woman who works at the Audi dealership at the corner of Grayston and Katherine she heard gunshots and ran outside just after 6.30pm on Thursday night.
“I saw a car coming across the intersection of Katherine and Grayston before hitting a light pole on the side of the road and there was smoke coming out the bonnet of the vehicle.”
She says another motorist who witnessed the shooting described what happened.
“She had seen a car pulling up at the robots and it looked like there were two people inside. The passenger opened his widow, took out a firearm and pointed it at the guy in the Mercedes Benz.”

The gunmen didn’t get out of their vehicle but sped off over the highway towards Alexandra.
Eyewitness News understands Mhlanzi has received death threats recently and sources say his murder was undoubtedly a hit.
He leaves behind a seven-year-old son and five-year-old twins.
