Oudtshoorn Municipality welcomes ex-employee's 6-year jail term

JOHANNESBURG – The Oudtshoorn Municipality has welcomed a six-year sentence handed down to a former employee convicted of fraud.

Thandile Salman defrauded the municipality of more than R400,000.

The 34-year-old was handed a nine-year prison sentence of which three years is suspended for five years.

Oudtshoorn Mayor Colin Sylvester said: “This sentencing must serve as a warning to other municipal officials to stay corrupt-free and to perform their duties as expected by the public that we serve.

“This sentencing also sends a strong message that even if it takes years, justice will be served.”
