Free higher education on the cards for SA?
The Fees Commission is set to submit its final report on the possibility of free education to President Jacob Zuma on Wednesday.
The commission says it’s pleased that it was able to complete its work within deadline.
Spokesperson Musa Ndwandwe says that the final handover will take place in the afternoon.
“From there on it’s policymakers under the direction of the president who will deal with the content and see if they find anything.”
Earlier this year, the African National Congress announced that it wants the government to start providing free tertiary education to the poor from next year.
Fees Must Fall activist Mcebo Dlamini says that if the commission’s report counter’s this view, there could be trouble.
"I can guarantee you that it will spark unrest on the ground, that’s a given."
