Athlone community receives relief aid after deadly fire

More than 120 people have been displaced following a fire in which a man lost his life.

CAPE TOWN - An Athlone community has received relief aid following a fire in which a man lost his life.

The blaze broke out in an informal settlement early on Tuesday morning.

More than 120 people have been displaced.

Disaster risk management’s Charlotte Powell says: “Various city services are on site. Solid Waste is removing the fire debris and informal settlements will issue out fire kits to the residents to rebuild their dwellings.

“No emergency sheltering has been activated.”
